Paris Saint-Germain have viciously denied rumours of the club getting sold, publicly calling out the Spanish media in the process.
Paris Saint-Germain have been in the thick of things this year. Following their eliminations from the Champions League and Coupe de France, reports suggested that their Qatari owners could be stepping down at the end of the season by putting the club up for sale. However, according to RMC Sport (h/t GFFN), PSG have categorically denied such speculation.
PSG have been under Qatari ownership since 2011. The Emir of Qatar had purchased the club as part of his plans to promote his country while establishing the Parisian outfit as one of the strongest teams in world football.
After over a decade, PSG have been quite dominant on the domestic front, securing seven league titles while currently being on their way to winning their eight. They have also won the Coupe de France six times but have consistently underperformed in Europe.
Over the past decade, PSG’s biggest achievement in Europe came in the 2019/20 campaign when Les Parisiens managed to reach the final of the competition under Thomas Tuchel. They ultimately lost to Bayern Munich, which was followed by the sacking of Tuchel later in the year.
Under new coach Mauricio Pochettino, PSG missed out on the Ligue 1 title last term, coupled with early eliminations from the Champions League and Coupe de France in the ongoing campaign. The speculation surrounding the exit of Qatari ownership came to the fore earlier this year when PSG were eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid.
However, PSG have fiercely denied such claims and have admitted their lack of surprise over the speculations originating from Spanish media, who have been at the forefront of the Kylian Mbappe saga.
The Frenchman has been subjected to a potential move to Real Madrid at the end of the season. But PSG have offered fierce resistance so far and are willing to spend the big bucks in order to keep hold of his services beyond the summer.
The club believe the speculations over its future are propaganda by Spanish media to influence Mbappe to quit the French capital in favour of a move to Real Madrid. The Parisian juggernaut, therefore, have a crucial summer ahead of them as the club’s hierarchy looks to make a major overhaul in the team setup whilst hoping to keep hold of Mbappe.
