Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are reportedly eyeing Rennes head coach Bruno Genesio in case there is a managerial vacancy created at either club.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are among a host of clubs keeping a close eye on Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio.

The 55-year-old began his managerial career in the lower leagues of French football with FC Villefranche and Racing Besancon before taking up a role with the Lyon B team in 2007. After four years with the reserve side, he was made the assistant manager of the senior team in 2011 before being appointed as the manager in 2015.

Genesio spent close to four years at the helm of affairs with Les Gones before being poached by Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan in 2019. The Frenchman returned to France in March last year when he was named the manager of Rennes, and he has done a solid job since taking charge of the Ligue 1 outfit.

Genesio helped Rennes finish sixth in Ligue 1 last season and guided them to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Europa Conference League this term. At the same time, he also helped the club climb up to the third spot in the French top-flight this term, just a point shy of second-placed Olympique de Marseille.

While he may not be the biggest name in the managerial world, Genesio had done a solid job at Lyon in the past and has brought in some stability at Rennes. And it has seemingly caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, with Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Everton among those keeping tabs on him.

Tottenham have already changed managers this term, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo with Antonio Conte. However, question marks linger over the long-term future of the Italian tactician, who has often cut a frustrated figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since taking over the reins.

It is believed that there is a good chance Conte might decide to move on in the summer, especially if the north London club miss out on Champions League football for next term. As a result, Tottenham are already readying a list of potential replacements that includes former boss Mauricio Pochettinhoalong with Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui. At the same time, Bruno Genesio has also emerged as a candidate.

As for Everton, they, too, have switched managers this term, moving on from the ill-advised appointment of Rafael Benitez to ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard. However, it has not worked out well for the former English international, who has struggled to lead the Toffees away from the drop zone.

With the team not showing signs of fulfilling its potential during Lampard’s short tenure, Everton could decide to change things up again in the summer, even if they avoid the drop, with Bruno Genesio a candidate to take over. Apart from Tottenham and Everton, Wolves are also believed to be admirers of the Frenchman, while Valencia and Real Sociedad are also keeping tabs.
