Arsenal are reportedly confident Mikel Arteta will sign a new deal at the club amid recently interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Talks of a new deal for Mikel Arteta has gained momentum in recent weeks. News of the club offering the Spaniard an extension should not be surprising considering how well Arsenal have been playing in recent months. After a run of five consecutive victories in the Premier League, the north Londoners are now favourites to clinch the fourth spot.

On Sunday, they breezed past Leicester City at the Emirates in an attacking performance that was a masterclass from Arteta. The Arsenal manager’s current deal will have one year left in the summer, which has raised alarm bells over his long term future.

Incidentally, Arsenal are preparing a bumper three-year deal for Arteta and remain confident of extending his stay at the club. The Gunners are keen on securing their manager’s future for a long time after a successful first phase of the squad build-up following his appointment two years ago.

Arteta and technical director Edu have overseen a massive squad overhaul in the last 18 months, trimming down the size and wage bill at the club. In terms of departures, the January transfer window saw the club slash their wage bill significantly after the exit of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was the club’s highest earner by a mile.

Moreover, the club heeded Arteta’s advice in recruiting young as they signed six players last summer, all under 23. They have been performing well at Arsenal, with four of those firmly established in the first-team setup.

According to football.london, Arsenal remain confident that Arteta will sign a new deal and shrug off the latest rumours linking him to a move to PSG. The club hierarchy are keen on keeping the Spaniard, as they want him to continue his rebuild and make the club challengers on all fronts.

In recent weeks, PSG have emerged as contenders to prise Arteta away from Arsenal, as the future of Mauricio Pochettino has come under significant doubt. The Argentine failed in PSG’s quest for the elusive UEFA Champions League title after squandering a handy lead to allow Real Madrid to go through to the quarter-finals at their expense.

Pochettino has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham for a long time, and it does seem the Argentine might depart Paris in the summer. Hence, PSG are already looking at potential replacements, with Arteta high on their list.

As things stand, there is no reason why Arteta could depart Arsenal, considering what he has built in his two years in north London. The Spaniard’s expectations of signing a new deal imminently are growing by the day, and soon enough, the Arsenal supporters could see their manager put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.
