La Liga heavyweights are reportedly willing to hand 23-year-old centre-back, Ronald Araujo a bumper new contract to extend his stay at Camp Nou.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona will continue negotiations with Ronald Araujo over a possible bumper contract. The Catalan giants are prepared to offer the 23-year-old defender an improved deal to secure his long-term future amid interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronald Araujo joined Barcelona from Boston River in August 2018 and has since come leaps and bounds at Camp Nou. The Uruguayan international initially had to bide his time in Catalonia but has become a mainstay at the back for club and country over the last two years.

The 23-year-old has been top-notch in the ongoing campaign, turning out 31 times across all competitions for Barcelona, chipping in with three goals in the process. But the Catalan giants are in a spot of bother over Araujo’s long-term future as he has a little over a year remaining on his current deal.

Recent reports have claimed that Araujo and Gavi are in advanced talks with Barcelona over their respective contract renewals. The young centre-back has no intention to leave Barcelona, nor does he want a deal worth several millions to commit his long-term future to the Blaugrana.

But after rejecting two renewal proposals from Barcelona, Araujo has made his terms clear. The 23-year-old Uruguayan international wants Barcelona to offer him a contract that values his worth to the first team, rewarding him with a deal that matches those that Pedri and Ansu Fati signed in 2021.

Meanwhile, the interest in Araujo is ramping up, with Paris Saint-Germain recently joining Manchester United in the pursuit of the young Barcelona defender. But the Catalan giants are not giving up yet and will likely table an improved contract to secure the youngster’s long-term future.

Araujo and Barcelona are poised to sit down and continue their negotiations later this month, and the Blaugrana will hope that the latest offer will be enough to convince him to sign on the dotted line. But with PSG and Manchester United lurking in the shadows to pounce, Barcelona will need to be efficient.
