Kylian Mbappe has reportedly rejected a blank cheque from Paris Saint-Germain, with Real Madrid closely following his contract talks.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Real Madrid might have received a major boost in pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, with the Frenchman turning down a contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain. PSG had offered him a blank cheque, exceeding 90 million gross in August, and the promise of a sports project of guarantee, but the player is focused on the ongoing campaign for now.

Kylian Mbappe might only be 23 years old but is already one of the most successful players in the game’s history. The Frenchman first burst onto the limelight during the 2016/17 season, wherein AS Monaco shocked the world by winning the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain. And the player was on his way to PSG the following summer, joining Les Parisiens on an initial loan.

The French forward has enjoyed a fruitful stint with PSG thus far, amassing 154 goals and 77 assists in 204 appearances while winning several trophies. At the same time, Mbappe has also experienced success at the international level, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Nations League last year with France.

But Mbappe’s contract situation has put PSG in a spot of bother, as he is in the final months of his deal. Such a situation has captured the attention of high profile clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid unsurprisingly leading the race to sign him on a Bosman move.

Real Madrid had been keen on signing Mbappe last summer, but a move never materialised. But the interest has not waned one bit, with Los Blancos reportedly attempting to reach a pre-contract agreement with the 23-year-old over a possible Bosman move.

Widespread reports have suggested that Mbappe is ready to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer. But PSG will be throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, to tie Mbappe to a bumper new contract. The Ligue 1 heavyweights had even tabled a blank cheque to the youngster to lure him into staying put at Parc des Princes.

But Mbappe has rejected the contract offer from PSG because he wants to concentrate on the matters on the pitch and ensure smooth progression to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 by beating Real Madrid. Mbappe’s contract renewal has got even the French president, Emmanuel Macron, involved. The saga is likely to linger on for some more time before we get clarity on the situation.

Mbappe is a very good player and we would love to have him at Real Madrid, but we have to focus on getting a good replacement for him if the deal doesn’t come through. There are hundreds of other forwards out there who are just as good or even better. Some are in South America and we haven’t even gone there to scout them and come up with the most promising ones. Why are we just focused on one player.

Real Madrid should sign another different player apart from Mbappe
