Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering Barcelona forward Memphis Depay as a possible long-term replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The French giants are eyeing the Barcelona attacker as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who could join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Memphis Depay joined Barcelona on a Bosman move last summer after running down his contract at the end of a four-and-a-half-year stint at the Groupama Stadium. But the transfer to Barcelona has not worked out as planned as after a strong start to life at Camp Nou, the Dutchman’s stock has fallen rapidly.

The 28-year-old has a sub-par tally of eight goals and two assists in 23 appearances across all competitions. The arrival of Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this past month is threatening to send him down the pecking order. And a summer departure from Barcelona could be on the cards for Depay, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in him.

The interest from PSG comes in the wake of the rampant uncertainties surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe. The French international has entered the final six months of his contract with Les Parisiens and is likely to depart Parc des Princes as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Widespread reports have even claimed that Mbappe has reached a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. PSG will thus need to enter the market for a replacement, with Depay emerging as a viable target.

Apart from the Barcelona forward, four other attackers are on PSG’s radar, with the French giants also setting their sights on Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Erling Haaland and Moise Kean. For his part, Depay would be open to joining PSG as he has had a good experience in Ligue 1 previously with Lyon.

Depay believes he can recover the best version of himself by joining PSG in the summer transfer window. But with five options on their radar, it will be interesting to see which way the scales tip by the time the 2021/22 season ends.
