Frenkie de Jong reportedly has no intention of leaving Barcelona in the summer transfer window amid interest from Liverpool.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Frenkie de Jong is determined to stay put at Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window, with the club also warming up to the idea of keeping hold of him. Liverpool and Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Dutch midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in July 2019 and has since come leaps and bounds in his career. The Dutch international has been a pivotal figure for club and country in this time, although his stock at Camp Nou had initially taken a hit earlier in the ongoing season.

Following Ronald Koeman’s departure, de Jong initially struggled to get used to Xavi Hernandez’s system. But after bouts of inconsistency, the 24-year-old has found stability once again. To date, the player has made 120 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with 11 goals and 14 assists. But the possibility of snapping the Barcelona midfielder up had captured the attention of Liverpool.

The Reds chose not to bring in a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum following his departure as a free agent last summer. While Harvey Elliott has been impressive since being promoted as a first-team regular, there are other issues brewing in the Liverpool squad.

Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner are on the wrong side of 30, meaning Liverpool ought to bring in a young midfielder to be a long-term solution in the middle of the park. And with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggling to carve out a place for himself, de Jong emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

Apart from Liverpool, the Barcelona midfielder has also been linked with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions were even keen on signing de Jong in the January transfer window before a move failed to materialise. And now, it has emerged that the Dutch international has no intention of leaving Barcelona.

The player is starting to enjoy life at Barcelona again and is determined to be successful at Camp Nou. The Catalan giants are also warming up to the idea of keeping hold of de Jong even though he is their most lucrative asset. But unless they receive an attractive bid for the 24-year-old, Barcelona will not cash in on him in the summer.
