Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Valencia captain Jose Gaya as they look to strengthen their full-back department in the summer transfer window.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are intent on bolstering their full-back options in the summer transfer window and have identified Jose Gaya as one of their transfer targets.

Gaya has spent his entire career at Valencia, having come through the ranks at the club. He broke into the senior team after the departure of Jordi Alba to Barcelona and has since been the undisputed starter in goal for Los Che. To date, he has made 282 appearances for his boyhood club, in the process scoring eight goals and setting up 34 more.

Gaya will be entering the final year of his contract with Valencia at the end of the season. It has led to some uncertainty over his future at Mestalla, with Barcelona seemingly keen on signing him up as a long-term replacement for Alba. However, Real Madrid have also now entered the race for the signing of the Spaniard.

Real Madrid will need a new left-sided full-back in the summer as they are set to lose captain Marcelo. The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the campaign and will not be given an extension. He is already attracting offers from clubs in Brazil, while MLS outfit Inter Miami are also keen.

At the same time, Real Madrid are also likely to part ways with youngster Miguel Gutierrez. The La Fabrica prospect is rated highly within the club but does not enjoy the faith of manager Carlo Ancelotti. As a result, the Spanish capital outfit could decide to sell him in the summer, with there being significant interest from the Premier League.

Such a situation would leave Los Blancos with Ferland Mendy as the only option at left-back, considering David Alaba is being used primarily as a centre-half. Hence, Real Madrid are on the lookout for a new left-sided full-back and have been linked with various players such as Fran Garcia, Angelino, Sergio Reguilon, with Gaya also now emerging as a target.

Reports have claimed that the Spanish international could decide to extend his stay with Valencia as he enjoys being the club captain. However, if Real Madrid come up with a big offer, it could turn the player’s head.
