Arsenal are keeping tabs on Victor Oshimhen, with Mikel Arteta reportedly keen on the striker as the Gunners plan another summer spending spree.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have set their sights on Victor Osimhen ahead of the upcoming summer window. The Napoli ace is earmarked to move to the Premier League, with other clubs also interested. However, Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attack by bringing the Nigerian on board.

Arsenal ended the January window without any senior signings despite letting some players leave the club. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s late move to Barcelona grabbed the headlines as the Gunners fanbase worried their club would finish the month without replacing the Gabonese.

Their fears were realised as Arsenal did not replace the Gabon star with a new striker. They chased Dusan Vlahovic for most of January before the Serbian decided to join Juventus in a high profile move. It did seem the former Fiorentina frontman was Mikel Arteta’s primary choice and the Spaniard decided against signing another player.

There were late whispers about a possible move for Alexander Isak, although Real Sociedad’s demand of paying his £75 million release clause halted any potential transfer. However, things are expected to be different in the summer, when Arsenal will have to buy at least two strikers to bolster their options.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah remain the only two recognised strikers at the club, and both will likely leave when their contracts expire in the summer. There have been names such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and even Isak mentioned as potential replacements at the Emirates.

The latest name is Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who has been earmarked as a potential high-profile signing at the Emirates next summer. The 23-year-old moved to Italy in 2020 after exploding at French club LOSC Lille. Despite having a slow start to life with the Partenopei, the Nigerian has gradually developed into a key operator for the Serie A heavyweights.

Osimhen, who has scored ten goals in 17 games this term, is attracting interest from Tottenham as Antonio Conte wants to bring in a new marksman to complement Harry Kane. Newcastle United are also keen on signing the forward, with Arsenal also now entering the fray to take him away from Napoli in the summer.

His contract with the Serie A club lasts until 2025, which gives the Italian side the edge in negotiations. It will be interesting to see how much the Serie A side demand, considering they paid just under £70 million for the striker, and will certainly look to make a decent profit on their investment.
