Newcastle United are among the clubs monitoring the progress of Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay this season.
A recent report from Goal has offered an update on the future of Calvin Ramsay. The Aberdeen FC full-back has attracted widespread interest from the Premier League following his impressive performances in the Premiership. Aberdeen have already rejected the advances of clubs such as Leeds United and Leicester City, but they could find it difficult to keep hold of his services in the summer.
While Leeds and Leicester haven’t had much luck, the likes of Newcastle United and Manchester United are also closely monitoring the youngster’s progress. The Magpies, in particular, are expected to spend heavily in the summer transfer window as their new owners look to flex their financial muscle, provided they can retain their top-flight status come May.
A right-back by trade, Ramsay made his way up from the youth academy to earn his promotion to the senior team last summer. He has already made an impressive breakthrough at Aberdeen, racking up eight assists in just 30 competitive appearances.
The 18-year-old has impressed onlookers with his ability to make marauding runs and create chances in the final third. It has made him a sought-after prospect in Scottish football, with the youngster reportedly being courted by the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham last month.
The two Premier League giants appear to have retained their interest in the club, along with Newcastle United. As mentioned earlier, the Magpies are expected to splash the cash in the summer as Eddie Howe looks to build a formidable team capable of competing for the top six places.
Newcastle United made their first big scalp in the January market by signing England’s established right-back Kieran Trippier. The further addition of Calvin Ramsay could help them solidify the position, at least in terms of depth, while allowing them to offload the likes of Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth.
However, it might not bode well for Ramsay, whose steady development could be hindered due to the competition. In many ways, it would not be surprising to see the youngster opting for a relatively lower tier of football. He could get more frequent opportunities to develop his game as he looks to follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen Kieran Tierney, Andrew Robertson and Nathan Patterson.
