Newcastle United are prepared to return with a fresh approach for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the summer after failing to lure him in January.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United are prepared to make a new offer for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz in the summer after failing with an approach in January. The Spaniard has made his intentions clear about leaving the Italian side, which could materialise after the current season.

Newcastle United may have had a good January window after recruiting in crucial areas to strengthen their chances of escaping relegation. The Magpies remain in the danger zone currently, but with the new signings, they have high hopes of staying in the Premier League next season.

Eddie Howe may not have signed all the primary targets he intended at the start of the window but can have no complaints after the club spent significantly to sign good players. Bruno Guimaraes’ signing from Lyon was their costliest piece of business, although they strengthened other areas quite well.

Howe wanted to bring in a quality central midfielder and ended up with the Brazilian from Lyon. However, the 24-year-old may not have been the club’s primary target for the position, with Fabian Ruiz thought to be their first preference.

The Napoli midfielder is high on big clubs’ agenda and could move away from Napoli next summer. He has made his decision clear to the Italian club after reportedly refusing a new contract offer. Newcastle were ready to make a decent offer to sign him up in the recently concluded January transfer window.

The report suggests the Magpies were prepared t0 pay around €48 million for the Spanish midfielder, which would certainly have appealed to Napoli. However, Ruiz wanted to finish the season with Napoli and see where he could take the club at the end of the term.

But, he could be moving next summer, and Newcastle United are willing to make a new offer for the midfielder. Ruiz will have a year left on his contract after this season, and it could significantly impact the transfer fees that the Magpies might offer.

It remains to be seen how much the Premier League side are prepared to shell out for the 25-year-old Ruiz in the summer. Napoli certainly would have liked to keep the player for the long-term future, but their hands are tied in this situation and they could be designed to sanction a sale to Newcastle or any other side.
