Barcelona will reportedly attempt to sign 29-year-old Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic on a Bosman move in the summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Pasquale Guarro, Marcelo Brozovic is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are prepared to offer the 29-year-old a lucrative deal amid long-drawn contract negotiations with Serie A champions Inter Milan.

Marcelo Brozovic has come leaps and bounds since joining Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb. The Croat initially returned to his former club on loan 18 months before finally arriving at San Siro for good in July 2016. In the last five and a half years, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

The 29-year-old has also been an integral member of Inter Milan’s squad that has evolved tremendously during his stint, culminating with the Serie A title triumph last season. To date, Brozovic has made 271 appearances for Inter Milan, chipping in with 26 goals and 35 assists in the process.

But the Serie A champions are in a spot of bother over Brozovic’s long-term future as he has entered the final six months of his contract, with a renewal yet to be finalised. The Croatian international is not opposed to the idea of staying put at San Siro but is also open to leaving, with Barcelona hoping to prise him away on a Bosman move.

Barcelona will likely enter the transfer market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Frenkie de Jong. While the Dutchman remains one of the most consistent performers for Barcelona, the club’s financial struggles could force them to cash in on him.

With Sergio Busquets in the twilight of his career, the Catalan giants also need to sign a holding midfielder whose presence can help them start phasing out their captain. Brozovic is thus a viable target for Barcelona, who could offer him a lucrative deal worth €8 million per year, as per Fabrizio Biasin.

Brozovic is not the only midfield target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana also reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Franck Kessie. But if Brozovic’s contract talks with Inter Milan break down, Barcelona could have two enticing options to choose from, with a Serie A-based midfielder likely to arrive at Camp Nou on a Bosman move as things stand.
