Newcastle United are in the market for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who could cost around €100 million next summer.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabio Santini, as relayed by CalcioNapoli 1926, Newcastle United have registered interest in Victor Osimhen. The Premier League outfit believe the Nigerian international has what it takes to spearhead their attack in the coming seasons, but Napoli are not expected to let him go for cheap.
The club president Aurelio De Laurentiis values the player as high as €100 million, even though local reports only suggests a valuation of around €70 million. The Italian supremo is aware of Osimhen’s growing stock in European football, with the player enjoying immense success since his move to Napoli in 2020.
Formerly of LOSC Lille, Osimhen initially endured a rough start to his career in Italy. He scored only two goals in his first ten league matches, even sustaining a shoulder injury that further derailed his progress. However, a strong finish to the season saw him score seven goals in the last nine matches, though it was not enough to help Napoli finish inside the top four.
The Nigerian international had started the new season on a positive note, netting five in his first seven matches. But his progress was yet again halted by an injury that kept him out on the sidelines through December and the best part of January.
However, that has not deterred Newcastle United, who are closely monitoring Osimhen’s development, hoping to make him their frontline forward next season.
The Magpies were among the busiest teams in January, splashing over €100 million by signing the likes of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. They also secured Bruno Guimaraes, while Dan Burn and Matt Targett were brought in on deadline day. While Eddie Howe hopes these additions will be sufficient to help Newcastle stave off relegation, the club is already planning ahead for the new season.
With a tally of 15 goals in 37 Serie A matches, many believe Victor Osimhen has what it takes to become an ideal leader for the Newcastle attack next season. However, the Magpies are set to face stiff competition from other rivals in the race to sign the Nigerian forward, who is reportedly a target for Liverpool.
Even Everton were keen on securing a late January move for Napoli starlet, though their attempts were knocked back by the Partenopei, who are expecting a major bidding war for the services of the 23-year-old next summer.
