Tottenham retain an interest in Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo, and the north London club could prepare an offer in the summer.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham retain an interest in Nicolo Zaniolo and could launch an offer for him in the summer window. Spurs director Fabio Paratici could be key to luring the Italy international away from AS Roma.

Tottenham had a mixed bag of a January transfer window, which saw some of their notable midfielders leave the club. Spurs dipped into the Italian market for answers to offset those departures and got hold of two quality players to shore up their squad options.

Antonio Conte had high hopes from the Spurs board to improve the squad’s quality in January drastically. The priority for the manager was to sign a wide attacker. Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus for that role after suffering setbacks in their pursuit of top targets Adama Traore and Luis Diaz.

Kulusevski was followed out of Juventus to north London by Rodrigo Bentancur, who joined Spurs in a permanent transfer. The Uruguayan certainly improves their midfield options considering Conte let both Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso leave on loan deals late in the window.

That aside, Conte remains interested in signing another wide attacker for the club. One of the names for the January window was Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo, with Spurs still reportedly keeping tabs on the winger. The north Londoners are expected to go back with an offer in the summer, although it would be a tricky transfer deal to complete.

Zaniolo has a contract with Roma until 2024, which could help the Italians dictate his price. The main reason he is still at the club could be the Serie A giants’ high asking price, which may have put off Spurs or even Newcastle United from pursuing a possible deal.

The 22-year-old has had a lot of injury issues in the past but seems to have put them behind this term. He has featured 26 times for the Giallorossi, scoring four goals and setting up five more.

While there is still time left on his contract with Roma, the club are facing difficulties in renewing his deal, which could lead to the possibility of a sale with the Italian capital club struggling financially. Apart from Spurs, there is also interest from Serie A heavyweights Juventus, who might take the chance to prise him away.

Tottenham are building a huge Serie A connection, as their last few transfers seem to suggest. Paratici’s influence was key to bringing both Kulusevski and Bentancur to the club, and Spurs’ sporting director could yet again be key to bringing someone like Zaniolo to the club in the summer.
