Chelsea are reportedly plotting a Bosman move for Ousmane Dembele after failing with a deadline day enquiry for the Barcelona contract rebel.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Ousmane Dembele is the subject of interest from Chelsea over a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Blues also considered signing the Barcelona contract rebel in a deadline day move last month, but the player wished to stay put at Camp Nou after his proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain broke down.
Ousmane Dembele joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in August 2017 in a nine-figure deal but has failed to justify the enormous outlay in the last four and a half years. While the Frenchman has often shown flashes of brilliance, injuries, poor form, and attitude issues have constantly blighted him.
The 2021/22 season has been one to forget, as the 24-year-old has managed only 684 minutes of game-time across 11 outings in all competitions. To make matters worse, Dembele now has no future at Barcelona after reaching a point of no return in negotiations over a contract renewal. The Blaugrana wanted to offload him in the January transfer window, but a move did not materialise.
Widespread reports claimed that Dembele had reached a verbal agreement to join Paris Saint-Germain, but the transfer broke down in the final hours of the window. Chelsea had also shown an interest in securing the services of the Barcelona contract rebel and had submitted an enquiry for him.
But Chelsea’s interest in Dembele has not waned, with the Blues plotting a Bosman move to snap up the French international. The west Londoners’ eagerness to sign Dembele stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner.
Both players have coincidentally been linked with Barcelona and might leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window. Either player’s departure will leave the Blues needing a replacement, with Dembele being a viable target.
Thomas Tuchel is believed to be a keen admirer of Dembele’s talents, having managed the Barcelona forward during his solitary season at Borussia Dortmund. With the 24-year-old destined to leave Barcelona as a free agent, Chelsea could be positioned at the front of the queue of suitors vying to reach a pre-contract agreement with him.
