Everton are still looking for a new midfielder and are considering bringing Idrissa Gueye back to the club before the transfer deadline.

According to Daily Mirror correspondent David Maddock, Everton are considering re-signing Idrissa Gueye before the transfer deadline. The Toffees are looking to bolster their squad with the Ligue 1 midfielder, who could be allowed to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Everton could still be in the mood to complete a deal or two in the transfer market before the winter transfer window deadline. The Toffees have strengthened their squad decently, although they have also weakened it by allowing Lucas Digne to join Aston Villa.

They have since sacked Rafael Benitez as manager and have appointed Frank Lampard as the new man at the helm. The former Chelsea boss has already begun to lay down his ideas in the transfer window as the club take a cue from their new tactician to get the right players in.

Everton are closer than ever to securing the loan signing of Donny van de Beek from Manchester United, although reports suggest they might be wanting another midfielder. While the Dutchman provides more attacking impetus, the Toffees are also looking for a player with a more defensive profile.

Idrissa Gueye is being considered as an option as Everton could look to re-sign their former star before the transfer deadline. The 32-year-old Senegalese international is not regarded as important to PSG’s plans going ahead. They might be open to the idea of letting him leave in this window.

Gueye has made 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals in the process. He was already being considered by Newcastle United earlier in the window. The Magpies, however, have since shifted their priorities. With Everton’s apparent interest, there could still be a chance for the midfielder to come back to the Premier League.

Everton could look to make a loan offer to PSG for the Ligue 1 midfielder. The Toffees are also considering other options, not similar to Gueye’s profile, such as Dele Alli, to add more quality to their squad.

As things stand, a move for Gueye could still be possible despite the lack of time to do a deal. The 32-year-old could be a good signing who will bring plenty of experience to the table for the Toffees as they look to get out of a difficult situation.
