Bayern Munich have reportedly expressed the desire to sign Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech, who could be set for a move to the Bundesliga.

If reports from Fichajes are to be believed, Bayern Munich have emerged as the latest club to be interested in a move for Hakim Ziyech. The Bundesliga champions are looking to sign the Chelsea attacker on a short-term loan deal with an option for redemption at the end of the season.

The Bavarians have done well to convince Kingsley Coman to extend his spell in Germany. They are also expected to hold on to the services of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry, but it appears Julian Nagelsmann is determined to add more competition in the offensive unit, with Ziyech a potential target.

Formerly of Ajax, Ziyech has endured a difficult spell in England after joining Chelsea in the summer of 2020. He has struggled with a lack of consistency in English football, racking up only nine starts in the Premier League this term.

Bayern are not the only club interested in the Moroccan international, who is also being monitored by both FC Barcelona and Inter Milan. Bayern’s rivals Borussia Dortmund are involved in the race, too, though none of the three clubs is likely to make a move in the ongoing January transfer window.

Bayern Munich, though, are intent on reinforcing their attacking options by bringing in Ziyech in a late loan move. Nagelsmann likely views the player as an ideal alternative for Muller or Sane, as both the players like to drift inside despite initially operating in a wider role. Ziyech can operate in the same fashion, making him a tactically compatible option for the Bundesliga champions.

However, the report suggests Chelsea are yet to make a decision regarding the immediate sale of Ziyech. Over the past few weeks, the attacker’s stature has grown at Stamford Bridge, with Thomas Tuchel seemingly relying more on the Moroccan.

In fact, seven of Ziyech’s nine starts in the league have come in the past two months, with the player moving ahead of the likes of Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi in the pecking order. As such, Chelsea could be keen on keeping hold of Ziyech at least until the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how the 28-year-old performs during the remainder of the campaign.
