Real Madrid have reportedly intensified their efforts to sign 22-year-old French international Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Aurelien Tchouameni seems to be becoming a key target for Real Madrid for the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants have sent their head of international football, Juni Calafat, to Monaco to open talks over a possible move for the Frenchman.

Aurelien Tchouameni has blossomed into one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1 since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in midfield for the Ligue 1 outfit in the last two years while also breaking into the French national side during this period.

The youngster was a part of Les Bleus’ UEFA Nations League triumph last year, which has escalated his stock further. To date, Tchouameni has made 76 appearances for Monaco, with 31 outings coming in the ongoing campaign. The player’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among the clubs keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Isco and Dani Ceballos, with the two Spanish midfielders set to depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window. And with Carlo Ancelotti having no natural alternative for Casemiro, signing Tchouameni will be a step in the right direction for Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are now stepping up their efforts to secure the services of the 22-year-old, having opened talks over a possible move in the summer transfer window. Juni Calafat, the head of international football at Real Madrid, was recently in Monaco to initiate discussions over a transfer and met the player’s agent Jonathan Kebe.

While Calafat is largely renowned for delivering prodigious Brazilian youngsters like Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, he also tends to look for other precious talents in Europe. It was Calafat who was instrumental in bringing Ferland Mendy to Real Madrid, and Tchouameni has now become a key target as well.

But signing the 22-year-old will cost Real Madrid a pretty penny, with AS Monaco likely to demand around €60 million for him. In addition to possibly readying a €60 million package for the UEFA Nations League winner, Real Madrid will also have to fend off competition from a gamut of other suitors, with Chelsea also keen on signing him in the summer.
