Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to face late competition from Napoli in the pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

According to Tuttosport, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24, Napoli have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Sofyan Amrabat. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit late in the window as they prepare themselves for life without Diego Demme. In Leandro Paredes and Gini Wijnaldum, they have identified a couple of desired targets, but they have also set their sights on Amrabat.

The Fiorentina midfielder is currently facing an uncertain future at the club after failing to find his place in the side under new coach Vincenzo Italiano. He has featured in just over 200 minutes of league football, falling behind Gaetano Castrovilli, Lucas Torreira and Alfred Duncan in the pecking order.

The lack of game-time has left Amrabat frustrated, with the player seemingly keen on moving elsewhere. Tottenham have been knocking on the door lately, with the Lilywhites reportedly preparing a fresh attempt to snap him up on loan.

It is apparent that Antonio Conte wants to filter out his squad as much as he can, with the Italian particularly frustrated with the state of his midfield unit. For starters, the former Inter Milan coach does not rate Tanguy Ndombele, and the Frenchman is reportedly closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Spurs are expected to offload Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso as well. The latter has been even linked with a return to La Liga amid interest from Sevilla. Their potential departures could pave the way for the club to bring in a few fresh faces. After missing out on Adama Traore, Sofyan Amrabat could prove to be a shrewd piece of business from Tottenham’s end.

As for Napoli, they are facing a battle to keep hold of Diego Demme. Amrabat, to that end, could be a sensible option as coach Luciano Spalletti looks to find a like for like alternative who can offer more resistance in the middle of the park.

Fiorentina, fresh from the recent sale of Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic, are yet to decide on the future of Amrabat. But it remains likely that La Viola may have to sanction his departure as the player is not included in Italiano’s plans. And with Napoli joining Tottenham late in the window, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Moroccan international, who is currently competing at the Africa Cup of Nations.
