La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly tracking the situation of 16-year-old prodigy Kenan Yildiz, who could leave Bayern Munich as a free agent.

According to a report by German outlet Sport1, Kenan Yildiz has popped up on the radar of Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the 16-year-old Turkish wonderkid’s situation at Bayern Munich and could launch an offensive to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

Kenan Yildiz is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players in Germany, having gone from strength to strength in Bayern Munich’s famed youth setup in recent years. The teenage prodigy joined the Bavarian giants from SSV Jahn Regensburg in July 2012 and has since made massive strides in the club’s academy.

Despite being only 16 years old, the Turkish whizkid has become a mainstay in Bayern Munich’s under-19 side, amassing an excellent tally of five goals and eight assists in 16 appearances across all competitions. But the Bundesliga champions are in a spot of bother over Yildiz’s long-term future as he is in the final six months of his contract, with Barcelona keeping tabs on his situation.

The Catalan giants are renowned for constantly searching for prodigious talents across Europe and beyond to add to their setup at La Masia before integrating them into their first-team squad. This approach has fetched Barcelona current regulars like Pedri, Gavi and Nico Gonzalez.

Most recently, Fabio Blanco joined Barcelona from Eintracht Frankfurt following a long pursuit by the Blaugrana. The La Liga heavyweights seem to be focusing much of their attention towards Germany, with Bayern Munich wonderkid Gabriel Vidovic emerging on their radar lately.

Vidovic’s Bayern Munich under-19 teammate Yildiz has now become the subject of interest from Barcelona, with the 16-year-old a more approachable target for the club. The Turk’s impending status as a free agent aligns perfectly with Barcelona’s financial situation. And at a time when creativity is a dire need in the first team, the teenage prodigy could have a chance to break into the senior side quickly.

The relationship between Barcelona and Bayern Munich has become frosty of late, with the Bundesliga champions’ recent approaches for Frenkie de Jong and Pedri souring things further. If Barcelona were to prise Yildiz away from Bayern Munich on a Bosman move, one would imagine the issues between them could escalate even more.
