Karim Adeyemi is reportedly the alternative to Erling Haaland for Real Madrid, who are lining up a €40 million offer for the German prodigy.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have earmarked Karim Adeyemi as the preferred alternative to Erling Haaland. The Merengues are even prepared to offer €40 million to snap up the German prodigy in the summer transfer window.

Karim Adeyemi has established himself as one of the best young strikers in Europe since returning to Red Bull Salzburg from sister club FC Liefering in December 2019. After initially playing second fiddle to Patson Daka, the 20-year-old has embraced more responsibility since the Zambian’s move to Leicester City last summer.

The German prodigy has also broken into his national side and has a solid tally of 18 goals and four assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this term. The young prodigy’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with several high profile clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The Spanish giants appear keen on laying down a succession plan for Karim Benzema, which is sensible despite the Frenchman’s scintillating form in the last few years. With Benzema well into his thirties, a successor must be in the squad when the veteran striker starts getting phased out as a regular.

With Luka Jovic failing to take his chances, Real Madrid must bring in someone else to replace the Serb and become Benzema’s true heir. To that end, Erling Haaland is the priority target for Los Blancos, even though recent reports had claimed that their interest in the Borussia Dortmund striker had cooled.

Recent reports have claimed that Haaland prefers joining Real Madrid instead of other suitors like Barcelona and Manchester City. But amid fierce competition for the youngster’s signature, Real Madrid must lay down a contingency plan, with Adeyemi emerging as their preferred alternative.

Widespread speculation has claimed that Adeyemi could join Dortmund, coincidentally as Erling Haaland’s replacement. But with the move not set in stone yet, the Merengues are keeping themselves in contention, with a €40 million bid readied.

Real Madrid would still prefer signing Haaland, and it will be interesting to see if they can beat the competition to land the Norwegian prodigy. If not, Real Madrid might launch the offensive for Adeyemi, with a €40 million offer on the horizon.
