Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly close to signing Tanguy Ndombele on a loan deal with a possible option to buy him outright at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Paris Saint-Germain have negotiated a deal with Tottenham for midfield misfit Tanguy Ndombele. The Parisians are thought to have agreed on a loan deal with a possible option or obligation to buy the former Lyon star.

Tanguy Ndombele might get his wish to leave Tottenham before the end of the month after a couple of years in north London. Spurs’s record signing has endured a disastrous spell as he has never settled down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Having failed to convince at least four different managers in the last few years, Ndombele had become frustrated with irregular game time and a general lack of trust. Signed under former boss and current PSG incumbent Mauricio Pochettino, he did look like a good signing until the Argentine’s premature departure.

The problems with the midfielder started showing under Jose Mourinho, who publicly criticised him at times. Nevertheless, the Portuguese tactician opted to give the Frenchman enough chances to impress, and the record signing generally failed to live up to his reputation.

This season, he has been irregular in the team, first under Nuno Espirito Santo and now with Antonio Conte in charge. The Italian has tried to test the midfielder’s talents in different positions but has not picked him since the Frenchman’s disappointing outing in the FA Cup against Morecambe.

Booed by his own fans, Ndombele seemed to decide his future after that particular game. Spurs have been more than willing to let him leave, as they could save on his high wages and create more space in the squad. Tottenham wanted to offload him to bring in a possible replacement, and it seems like things are going their way.

There has not been tremendous interest in the midfielder from clubs, but PSG are understandably a possible suitor in this scenario. The French giants are interested in the former Lyon man and are open to signing him before this month’s transfer deadline.

PSG wanted a six-month loan with an option to buy at the end of the term. However, Tottenham have insisted on placing an obligation clause, guaranteeing the midfielder’s exit in the summer. The Parisians are supposedly open to the idea as they continue discussing the deal.

Meanwhile, Valencia reportedly had a loan bid accepted by Spurs. A move to Spain might have been appealing, but the La Liga side’s current plight and inability to challenge for honours this term makes them a less than likely destination.

Ndombele is also keen on joining PSG this month, making things easier for all parties. Les Parisiens hope to have a breakthrough in negotiations and seal the transfer.

Spurs want PSG to cover his wages in full during the next six months and possibly recoup some of the transfer outlay they made on the midfielder a few years ago. It seems like a tight chase with only days left in the current window, although the French giants are now favourites to become Ndombele’s next destination.
