Newcastle United are readying a fresh bid for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Dan Burn as the January transfer window draws to a close.

According to Football Insider, relegation-threatened Newcastle United are set to make a fresh bid for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Dan Burn in the final days of the January transfer window.

The Magpies have already brought in Kieran Trippier and Chis Wood while agreeing a deal for Bruno Guimaraes. They could yet do with an addition or two and appear to have earmarked Burn as their man.

Newcastle made an original bid of £8m to secure the player’s services, but Brighton rejected it. The deal, however, appears to have gained a new wind as Burn seems keen to move to St. James’ Park. A former Newcastle youth player, he was released by the club at the age of 11 before making his name elsewhere.

A return home appears to be on the cards, with Newcastle preparing an improved bid to land the centre-back. With the 29-year-old also pushing for a move, the ball is now in Brighton’s court. With just days to go before the winter window closes, it is now a race against time to reach an agreement.

The 29-year-old is an experienced defender whose physical dominance will be an excellent addition to the Newcastle backline. Eddie Howe’s side has leaked goals this season, and adding fresh blood to the backline was inevitable this January.

Primarily a centre-back, the Englishman can also do a job at left-back. He will be an upgrade over Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles and will add fight to the Toons’ backline. Burn is not afraid to get his hands dirty, and it should aid Newcastle well as they look to stave off relegation.

The 29-year-old has been a key part for Brighton in reaching their current ninth-placed status in the English Premier League. Burn has just 18 months left on his current deal at the Amex Stadium. This could very well prove to be Brighton’s best chance to get top dollar for the player’s services. Whether they will be game or reject an offer yet again remains to be seen.
