La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on 30-year-old Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Meunier.

According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Thomas Meunier is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Catalan giants have already contacted the 30-year-old right-back’s entourage, with the player keen on joining them.

Thomas Meunier joined Borussia Dortmund in July 2016 after a four-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain. And after a slow start to life at the Signal Iduna Park, the Belgian international has established himself as a key figure for the Bundesliga giants.

To date, the 30-year-old has made 57 appearances for Dortmund, chipping in with three goals and seven assists in the process. Meunier has been especially convincing with his performances this season. And his exploits have duly been noted by one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona setting sights on him.

The Catalan giants have already signed one right-back this winter by bringing Dani Alves back to the club. But with Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, Barcelona will have to enter the market for a right-back at the earliest opportunity.

Recent reports have claimed that Cesar Azpilicueta is set to join Barcelona on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window once his contract with Chelsea runs out. The La Liga heavyweights have also been heavily linked with Noussair Mazraoui, with the Ajax defender recently suggesting he is ready for a new challenge.

Meunier has now emerged as a viable target for Barcelona, with initial contact already established. For his part, the 30-year-old right-back is also ready to leave Borussia Dortmund to join Barcelona, although the Bundesliga giants’ stance over a possible sale is unclear.

Interestingly, Dest has been linked with Borussia Dortmund, with Barcelona reportedly looking to include him as part of the deal to sign Erling Haaland. Whether Meunier will complete a late move remains up in the air, but it is clear that the Catalan giants are stepping up their efforts to bolster their squad in the final days of the transfer window, with Adama Traore on the verge of rejoining the club.
