Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a loan deal this month.

According to Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a move for Sofyan Amrabat. The Fiorentina star has emerged as the desired option for Antonio Conte as he looks to shore up his midfield before the winter transfer window slams to a shut. Spurs are reportedly considering a loan approach with an option to buy clause worth €16 million embedded in the deal.

Fiorentina are yet to make a decision on the future of Amrabat. But the player himself has his heart set on a mid-season move to Spurs, as he looks to redeem himself after a disappointing start to the 2021/22 campaign.

Formerly of Utrecht, Amrabat has been a part of Fiorentina since 2020. However, the midfielder has endured a difficult spell in Florence so far, especially in the ongoing season. Halfway through the campaign, Amrabat has made only one start in Serie A, falling behind the likes of Lucas Torreira, Gaetano Castrovilli and Alfred Duncan in the pecking order.

Despite his struggles at Fiorentina, though, the 25-year-old Moroccan international has made a solid impression in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. He has starred for his country so far in their route to the quarter-final. Amrabat’s success in Africa’s premier international competition has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham Hotspur keen on securing his services.

The Premier League giants are in the market for a new midfielder in the January transfer window. Tottenham are expected to part ways with Tanguy Ndombele in the coming days, with the Frenchman tipped to join Paris Saint-Germain, whereas Dele Alli is also facing an uncertain future at the club.

Even Giovani Lo Celso could be set for a move away from north London, amid interest from Spain, thus accentuating the need for a fresh face in the middle of the park.

Amrabat fits the bill well for Spurs, considering his effective passing and versatility in midfield. Standing at 1.85m, the 25-year-old Moroccan midfielder has a good physique as well, making him a tailor-made fit for Premier League football. Given his struggles at Fiorentina, he will also be available in the summer for as low as €16 million, making him a potential bargain for Tottenham.
