Manchester City are reportedly closing in on the capture of Zalan Vancsa, who is set to become the club’s first signing of the January transfer window.

According to Daily Telegraph, Manchester City are on the verge of securing their first signing of the January transfer window in the form of Zalan Vancsa. The 17-year-old attacker currently plies his trade with MTK Budapest but could soon be set for a move to the Etihad after the reigning English champions agreed a deal with the Hungarian outfit.

Vancsa is expected to complete his medical in Manchester in the coming days, though it won’t be surprising to see him remain at MTK Budapest for the remainder of the campaign. Manchester City are employing a similar policy with Julian Alvarez, with the River Plate starlet set to remain in Argentina until June, after reportedly agreeing a move to the Etihad.

A left-winger by trade, Vancsa had initially begun his youth career at Ferencvaros before moving to MTK’s academy in 2015. The 17-year-old whizkid enjoyed rapid growth at the youth level at MTK Budapest, eventually earning himself a promotion to the senior side in the summer.

Upon his ascension to the professional level, the attacker has not disappointed either, having racked up ten appearances in the Hungarian top-flight so far. With just two starts in the league, though, the youngster is far from being an established regular in the first-team. But he has made a solid impression with his dynamic style of play in the final third, effectively attracting interest from Manchester City.

The 17-year-old could become a part of Pep Guardiola’s project to future-proof his squad when the Manchester City boss gradually turns to younger players. As mentioned earlier, the Citizens are closing in on Julian Alvarez of River Plate. Emerging PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo is another option, although Manchester City are set to face stiff competition from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the immediate future of Vancsa still remains unresolved. But with the 17-year-old winger likely to remain at MTK Budapest, he will be keen on earning more first-team minutes during the second half of the campaign.

The teenage sensation is far from being a viable first-team option for any club in Europe right now, so it is essential for him to continue his development in Hungary before trying his luck on English soil next season. It will be interesting to see how the youngster performs over the next five months.
