Crystal Palace have reportedly made a loan approach to sign Manchester United playmaker Donny van de Beek in January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Crystal Palace have made a fresh bid to sign Donny van de Beek. The Londoners are eyeing a late swoop for the Manchester United midfielder and have thus tabled a loan offer. The Red Devils are open to offloading van de Beek in January as long as Palace are willing to pay his full salary until June.

Fresh from sanctioning the loan of Anthony Martial, it appears Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick wants to further trim his squad before the window slams shut in a few days.

Donny van de Beek has emerged on the list of players who can be offloaded after another disappointing start to a campaign. Six months into the new season, the midfielder has featured in only 68 minutes of league football. He has fallen behind the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and even the underperforming Marcus Rashford in the pecking order.

The Dutchman’s struggles have invariably posed questions over his long-term future at Manchester United. Earlier in the January transfer window, the out-of-favour midfielder was reportedly offered to Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund on a short-term loan deal, as Rangnick looked to trim the squad.

It is believed that van de Beek had rejected the advances of Newcastle, while Dortmund have not shown any desire to secure his services. It has prompted Crystal Palace to try and make a late swoop for the former Ajax starlet, who is keen on a move away from Old Trafford.

Unlike most other English clubs, Crystal Palace have had a quiet window, having not looked to sign a player so far. Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey was one of their prime targets in January, but it appears they are prepared to move on from the Welshman; instead, they have targeted Donny van de Beek.

It is no secret that the Eagles are in the market for a new playmaker, as they look to offer more creative support to strikers like Odsonne Edouard, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Christian Benteke. New signing Michael Olise has had limited game time and is being eased into the role of a regular, whereas Eberechi Eze is only just returning from a long layoff due to an Achilles injury.

Their struggles have accentuated the need for a new creative midfielder, with van de Beek emerging as an ideal solution. And with just a few days left before the transfer window slams to a shut, it will be interesting to see if Crystal Palace can soon close out a loan for the Manchester United midfielder.
