Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is reportedly set to join La Liga giants Sevilla on a straight loan for the remainder of the season.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Anthony Martial is set to get a temporary reprieve from his frustrations at Manchester United. The French forward is on the verge of joining Sevilla for the remainder of the season, with the La Liga giants not getting the option to sign him permanently.

Anthony Martial has seen his stock plummet since ending the 2019/20 season as Manchester United’s top scorer for the campaign. In the 18 months since then, the 26-year-old has been horribly out of form, with things going from bad to worse in the ongoing campaign.

The French forward has garnered only 367 minutes of game-time thus far, scoring just one goal in 11 appearances across all competitions. Neither Ole Gunnar Solskjaer nor Ralf Rangnick has fancied Martial much this term, with the player becoming frustrated with his situation at Old Trafford. And La Liga giants Sevilla have been prepared to offer him an escape route out of Manchester United for weeks.

This month, Los Nervionenses have already bolstered their attack by signing Jesus Corona from FC Porto. But it looks like Sevilla’s quest to reinforce the offensive unit has not ended with the Mexican forward’s arrival at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, and for a good reason.

With Erik Lamela and Suso being long-term absentees, the La Liga title hopefuls have needed to sign two attacking players in the January transfer window. And with Youssef En-Nesyri at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, the need to sign a versatile front-man has become even more urgent for Sevilla.

To that end, Martial recently emerged as a viable target for Sevilla, who had their initial approach for the Frenchman being rejected by Manchester United. As a result, the Andalusian giants also set their sights on alternatives, with Ousmane Dembele emerging as one such option in the last few days.

But Sevilla’s relentless pursuit of Martial has finally yielded success, as they have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign the 26-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season while also paying his wages in their entirety, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist has provided an additional update on the move, suggesting Martial’s transfer will be a straight loan, with Los Nervionenses not reserving an option to sign him permanently. Nonetheless, Martial’s arrival from Manchester United should provide a boost to Sevilla in their La Liga title chase.
