Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to battle it out for wantaway Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule.

According to Fichajes, Bayern Munich have been dealt with a major blow in their hopes of keeping Niklas Sule at the club. The Bavarians had offered the defender a contract extension to prolong his career in Munich beyond 2022. But it appears the player has decided to part ways with the German club in the summer and will, therefore, become a free agent.

Sule’s situation at Bayern has put multiple clubs on alert, including the Premier League trifecta of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. All of the three clubs are reportedly preparing an offer to bring himto the English shores in the summer on a Bosman move, with the defender being available for a pre-contract agreement this January.

Chelsea, in particular, have been linked with a move for Sule for a while now. The German international is rated highly by coach Thomas Tuchel, who is keen on reinforcing his defensive unit amid the uncertain future of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and even Cesar Azpilicueta. Azpilicueta has notably emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid, with his current deal expiring in the summer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick is equally keen on enhancing his defensive options. The club’s captain Harry Maguire has produced dismal performances this campaign, prompting the former RB Leipzig manager to consider more accomplished options in the transfer market.

The Red Devils have been recently linked with a swoop for Ronald Araujo, but it appears Barcelona have no intention of selling their defensive asset. It has compelled Rangnick to set his sights on Sule, with the German well aware of his abilities, having followed him closely during his time in the Bundesliga.

Another potential destination for Sule is Tottenham. The north London outfit have shown signs of improvement under new coach Antonio Conte. However, in an attempt to further accelerate the development, the Italian tactician is keen on upgrading his central defensive options.

With over 200 appearances in the Bundesliga, Sule’s experience at the highest level of football makes him an attractive option, not just for Tottenham but also for Chelsea and Manchester United. And having won almost everything at Bayern Munich, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the German international as he takes the next step in his career.
