Chelsea and Real Madrid have reportedly submitted enquiries from Chelsea and PSG for 26-year-old Spanish forward Marco Asensio.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their efforts to sign Marco Asensio. The two European giants have made their approaches for the 26-year-old forward, but Real Madrid will only take a call on his future in the summer transfer window.

Marco Asensio has done well to turn his fortunes around in the last few weeks after a disastrous 18 months following his return from a long injury layoff in June 2020. The Spanish international has seven goals and one assist in 23 appearances across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.

But Asensio would be frustrated with his current role in the Real Madrid first-team setup as he has had to share game-time with Rodrygo Goes, Lucas Vazquez and Eden Hazard. But that call is quite understandable, as he has not been as consistent as Vinicius Jr. on the other flank. Nonetheless, the player’s situation has caught the attention of Chelsea and PSG.

Chelsea will likely enter the market for a wide-attacker this year amid rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Coincidentally, both the players have been linked with Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona, with one of their key targets a Barcelona star.

The Blues are considering a January move for Ousmane Dembele, who appears set to leave the Catalan club after reaching a point of no return during contract negotiations. And Asensio is also a viable target for Chelsea, although they will have to fend off stiff competition from PSG to secure his services.

The interest from PSG comes in the wake of Kylian Mbappe’s precarious situation at Parc des Princes. The French forward has entered the final six months of his contract with the club and could is expected to join Real Madrid on a Bosman move in the summer. While they are scrambling to tie Mbappe down to a new contract, PSG must also keep their options open, with Asensio now a target.

Both Chelsea and PSG have submitted enquiries to learn about Asensio’s situation, but Real Madrid will only take a call on his future in the summer transfer window. For his part, the 26-year-old is also ready to wait till the end of the season to make a definitive decision. But with his contract expiring in 18 months, Real Madrid could be put in a spot of bother by the summer, handing PSG and Chelsea an opportunity to sign him.
