Barcelona are reportedly interested in Gianluigi Donnarumma and could offer PSG a swap deal involving Marc-Andre ter Stegen to sign the Italian goalkeeper.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gianluigi Donnarumma is becoming a key target for Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants could propose a swap deal to sign the PSG goalkeeper, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen touted to head the other way.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, having come leaps and bounds since breaking into the AC Milan first-team setup over half a decade ago while still in his teens. The 22-year-old joined Paris Saint-Germain from Milan on a free transfer, but the move has not worked out as envisioned.

The Italian international has started about half the games played by PSG this season, keeping six clean sheets in 13 matches across all competitions. And Donnarumma is understandable unhappy with his situation at Parc des Princes, which has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona had been hot on Donnarumma’s trail prior to his move to PSG, and the interest in the young goalkeeper has not waned much. The Catalan giants remain keen on signing the 22-year-old, even though he has a long-term contract with the Ligue 1 heavyweights.

For years, Barcelona had no reason to enter the market for a goalkeeper, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen being one of their most important players for over half a decade. But the German shot stopper has endured a significant dip in performance levels, compelling Barcelona to ponder selling him.

The German international has already been heavily linked with Bayern Munich, who could sign him as a long-term successor for Manuel Neuer. But Barcelona’s plans for ter Stegen appear to be different, as they are pondering a swap deal involving him and Donnarumma, with the PSG goalkeeper ready to join the Blaugrana.

That being said, ter Stegen and PSG’s stances on the swap deal remain unclear, meaning the possibility of the completion of the deal remains up in the air. But if Barcelona can secure the services of Donnarumma, they will have a solid deal on their hands, with the 22-year-old being a fine long-term solution in goal.
