Valencia are reportedly interested in signing Oscar Mingueza on loan from fellow La Liga club Barcelona this month.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Oscar Mingueza is the subject of interest from Valencia over a possible loan move in the ongoing transfer window. But Los Che are yet to receive a response from Barcelona following their initial approach for the Spanish defender.

Oscar Mingueza has been with Barcelona since joining the club’s famed academy La Masia as an eight-year-old in 2007. After making gradual progress in the Blaugrana’s youth setup, the 22-year-old earned his big break in the first-team squad in November 2020.

Mingueza was utilised regularly by Ronald Koeman as a centre-back and a right-back but has seen his stock fall since Xavi Hernandez took charge. The Spaniard has still made 19 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona this season, chipping with two assists in the process. But widespread reports have claimed that Barcelona will not mind offloading Mingueza, with Valencia interested in signing him this month.

The interest from Valencia comes in the wake of the uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Daniel Wass. The Danish utility man has been linked with Atletico Madrid over a possible move this month and is eager to join the reigning La Liga champions before the transfer window shuts down.

While other players like Cedric Soares and Diogo Dalot have been linked with Atletico Madrid, Wass remains their priority target. Valencia will thus need to enter the market for a replacement, making Mingueza a viable option to pursue.

According to AS, Los Che have submitted an enquiry to Barcelona over the possibility of signing the 22-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season. The Catalan giants are yet to respond to Valencia’s approach, but Mingueza’s suitor is hopeful of securing his services before the transfer window shuts down.

Mingueza would be a replacement for Wass in the right-back slot and reinforce the central defensive ranks at the Mestalla. But with Barcelona yet to respond to Valencia, it is unclear whether the Spanish defender will move to the club anytime soon.
