Barcelona are reportedly considering a summer move for Alex Telles, who could leave Manchester United after the ongoing season ends.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alex Telles is starting to become a key target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. The Brazilian defender could leave Manchester United after the ongoing season ends.

Alex Telles joined Manchester United from FC Porto in October 2020 and has since struggled to hit the heights of his stint with the Portuguese giants. The 29-year-old has been a tad bit unfortunate, as his arrival at Old Trafford coincided with Luke Shaw’s upturn in form during the same period. But Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as the interim manager has signalled a turnaround in fortunes.

The Brazilian international has made 11 appearances across all competitions this season, chipping in with one goal and one assist in the process. But Telles could leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window to secure one final big move of his career. And the player has captured the attention of one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona stems from Jordi Alba’s inconsistent performances this term. In fact, the Spaniard has been blowing hot and cold for the better part of the last 18 months, and his waning performance levels have set alarm bells ringing at Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants view Alejandro Balde as a long-term solution in the left-back slot, but the young defender has yet to settle down in the first-team setup at the club fully. Barcelona will thus need to enter the transfer market in the summer transfer window for a left-back who can share game-time with Alba or be an upgrade on the Spanish international.

To that end, several left-backs have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, including Alex Sandro, Jose Gaya and Alejandro Grimaldo, with Telles also emerging as a viable target. That the Manchester United defender is 29 years old means he can be a short-term acquisition for Barcelona to hold the fort before Balde takes over as the first-choice left-back.

According to the report, Telles could leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window, although that is difficult to fathom judging by his current scenario at Old Trafford. Nonetheless, Barcelona will fancy their chances of snapping him up, even though they have plenty of left-backs on their radar.
