Arsenal are reportedly locked in negotiations with New England Revolution regarding the January swoop for Matt Turner.

According to Guardian, Arsenal have expressed the desire to sign Matt Turner. They are in talks with New England Revolution, exploring the possibility of signing the 27-year-old goalkeeper in the ongoing January transfer window. The club already had held talks with Turner, and it is believed that agreeing personal terms will not be an obstacle.

Arsenal are yet to reach an agreement over a transfer fee, but they are confident of a deal being struck before the transfer market slams to a shut in less than two weeks’ time.

A native of New Jersey, Turner has been plying his trade at New England Revolution since 2016. During his ongoing six-and-a-half-year spell at the club, he has featured in over 100 competitive appearances, emerging as one of the best goalkeepers in Major League Soccer. He has even become a first-choice goalkeeper for the USMNT, ahead of Manchester City star Zack Steffen.

Turner notably won the Best Goalkeeper Award at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, where USMNT emerged victorious by beating Mexico in the final. And it appears the 27-year-old’s rapid rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal among the clubs interested in securing his services.

Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper is perhaps not surprising as the club prepares for a future without Bernd Leno. The German international’s presence in the Arsenal camp has become obsolete thanks to Aaron Ramsdale’s meteoric success this season. Leno has featured in only three Premier League games thus far, so it is only a matter of time before he departs the Emirates.

Earlier this season, Juventus were linked with a swoop for the former Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper. Even Inter Milan could join the market for the German shot-stopper in the summer, as they are braced to lose veteran goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, who, in turn, has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

In an attempt to replace Leno, Arsenal are prepared to sign Turner. The American international is set to serve as the primary backup for Ramsdale and presumably become the club’s main goalkeeper for the cup competitions. However, with just over a week left before the transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal can strike a deal to sign the New England Revolution star.
