Manchester United star Donny van de Beek has rejected advances from Newcastle United over a loan move.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Donny van de Beek. The struggling Premier League outfit had approached the Manchester United playmaker over a potential loan deal until the end of the season.

The report comes just a few days after claims of van de Beek being offered to Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window surfaced. However, it appears the player himself has rejected the opportunity to move to St. James’ Park despite his ongoing struggles at Old Trafford.

Formerly of Ajax, van de Beek is having a dreadful time in the Premier League. He was not highly rated by previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, often starting on the bench and failing to make any real impact on the pitch.

Things haven’t changed much after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, with the Dutchman yet to start a Premier League game under the new coach. It has compelled the midfielder to plot a move elsewhere in January in an attempt to potentially revive his career.

Van de Beek is aware of his dwindling prospects in the Netherlands national team and wants to get back on track as soon as possible in order to play in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. However, it seems he has no desire of playing for Newcastle United despite strong interest from the cash-rich outfit.

In fact, the 24-year-old could become the second Dutch midfielder, after Gini Wijnaldum to have rejected a move to Tyneside this January, primarily because of Newcastle United’s league position. With just 12 points on the board, the Magpies are one of the top relegation candidates in the Premier League this term, alongside the likes of Norwich City, Burnley and Watford.

However, the recent injection of cash has seen them enjoy a rather busy January transfer window, with the club recently bringing in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood. Eddie Howe is hoping to upgrade his options in midfield with the addition of van de Beek. But with the ex-Ajax starlet unwilling to join the Toon, the club could soon set sights on other alternatives, including his Man United teammate in Jesse Lingard.

Recent reports suggest Newcastle are preparing a £3 million January bid for the Englishman, although they are set to face stiff competition from league rivals West Ham United. Tottenham Hotspur are involved in the equation as well, although it won’t be surprising to see Lingard opting for a return to London Stadium.
