Reigning European champions Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Paris Saint-Germain’s out of favour full-back Layvin Kurzawa.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have set their sights on Layvin Kurzawa. The English giants are hoping to sign the 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain outcast on a short-term loan deal as Thomas Tuchel grows desperate for the addition of a new left-back in the ongoing January transfer window.

Currently standing third in the Premier League table with a 13-point deficit over league leaders Manchester City, Chelsea’s season has been further rocked by Ben Chilwell’s injury. The Englishman is set to undergo knee surgery that has ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign, leaving Tuchel devoid of a reliable option at left wing-back.

Chelsea’s primary objective in the market was to recall Emerson Palmieri from his loan deal at Lyon. But it appears the French giants have no intention of allowing the Italian to return to Stamford Bridge. The Blues also have not had much luck recalling Ian Maatsen either, as the youngster has played a certain number of matches that will prevent them from doing so.

These recent setbacks have forced the reigning European champions to set their sights on Layvin Kurzawa, with the 29-year-old keen on moving away from Parc des Princes after a difficult few years at the club.

Indeed, Kurzawa has endured a difficult season at PSG so far, falling behind Nuno Mendes, Juan Bernat and even Abdou Diallo in the pecking order. He has featured in only nine minutes of action in all competitions, which is quite unacceptable for a player of his calibre.

Chelsea are prepared to offer Kurzawa the opportunity to leave PSG temporarily by joining the club on a short-term loan deal. It is apparent that the French international is not highly rated by Thomas Tuchel, but the German considers him a good alternative for Marcos Alonso, who is likely to serve as the number one deputy in the absence of Chilwell.

However, in addition to Kurzawa, Chelsea are exploring other options in the market. They have recently been linked with a move for former Borussia Dortmund starlet Sergio Gomez, who is enjoying an excellent season at Anderlecht. The Spaniard bags a lot of potential and could be an interesting long-term investment for the club.
