According to Sky Sports, Southampton are exploring the possibility of signing Armando Broja permanently after the on-loan Chelsea youngster’s impressive performances at the club.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has been building a young squad in the background and completely understands the risks of such an endeavour. The Austrian tactician has been impressive at Southampton, even though results haven’t exactly reflected his ambition at the club.
Even his recruitment style has been questioned numerous times, including the loan signing of Armando Broja from Chelsea. The Albanian forward, who has only made one senior appearance for the Blues, was a risky signing for the Saints, considering his relatively limited experience at the highest level.
Hasenhuttl still took a chance, and in recent weeks the striker has been on top form. Broja has five goals in the Premier League, with three of those coming in the last few games since the start of December.
The Saints are now exploring signing the forward permanently and are prepared to begin talks with Chelsea. The Blues, however, are in no rush to make a decision just yet, as they could wait until the end of the season to determine the future of the forward.
Chelsea would like to see his performances over the course of the current season and then decide whether to keep him at Stamford Bridge or sell him off to interested parties. The report suggests Southampton may not be the only club keen on a permanent move, as other teams are enquiring about the Albanian.
The Saints are also keeping tabs on alternatives such as Mohamed-Ali Cho as they look for young and talented players who can flourish at St. Mary’s. As far as Broja is concerned, they will be hoping that the striker continues to produce impressive, goalscoring performances between now and May to strengthen their resolve over a permanent move.
As for the striker, he needs to keep performing consistently and hope his parent club notice his efforts. Chelsea are known to use their on-loan stars and make a good profit by selling them on to interested clubs. It is unlikely they will prefer him over their current options, and permanently moving to Southampton could make sense.
