Barcelona are reportedly considering making a move for Leeds United forward Rodrigo Moreno, with their hopes of signing Alvaro Morata fading rapidly.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona are mulling over the possibility of signing Leeds United and Spain forward Rodrigo Moreno in the ongoing transfer window as Xavi Hernandez looks for attacking reinforcements.

Rodrigo signed for Leeds United from Valencia in the summer of 2020, upon their promotion to the Premier League. However, he has had difficulty finding his feet in England as the 30-year-old has managed a paltry tally of just nine goals and two assists from 43 matches for the Whites so far.

Rodrigo has largely been playing second-fiddle to Patrick Bamford at Elland Road. But the Spaniard did get his fair share of chances early in the ongoing campaign due to the former’s injury. However, he failed to make the most of the opportunities before being struck down by an injury of his own.

Despite his struggles at Leeds United, Rodrigo’s reputation remains intact in Spain owing to his past exploits with Valencia. And Barcelona are now considering offering the 30-year-old forward an escape route from Elland Road in the ongoing transfer window.

The Catalans are on the lookout for reinforcements in the centre-forward position after losing Sergio Aguero, who had to retire from the game due to a heart ailment. Luuk de Jong has worked himself back into the side with some important goals recently, but his future at Camp Nou remains uncertain.

Memphis Depay failed to impress while deployed centrally, while Ferran Torres will likely be played out wide amid question marks over the future of contract rebel Ousmane Dembele. So, it makes sense for the Blaugrana to look for another forward to add more depth in the No. 9 role before the transfer window slams shut.

Alvaro Morata has been Xavi’s preferred target, but a move for the Spaniard is unlikely to materialise as Juventus are unwilling to terminate their loan agreement for the Atletico Madrid star. Barcelona are looking at alternate solutions to address the situation, with Rodrigo emerging as one such Plan B.

The 30-year-old is a player that the Catalan giants have tried signing previously and intend to bring on board now. The report claims that the striker is keen on switching to Camp Nou as he looks to resurrect his career and get back into the Spain national team. It remains to be seen if Barcelona’s interest in Rodrigo leads to anything substantial in the coming weeks.

Let’s be honest, Rodrego hasn’t lived up to his reputation as a striker. In fact to be brutally honest he has been a complete flop. A total waste of the money spent on him. Perhaps he will prosper with lesser physical demands of la liga
