Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid sensation Vinicius Jr. as a replacement for Ferran Torres.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Vinicius Jr. is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League heavyweights view the Real Madrid attacking sensation as a possible long-term replacement for Ferran Torres, who has joined Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in July 2018 and has since come leaps and bounds in his career. And it is particularly in the ongoing campaign that the Brazilian international has gone from being a promising winger who showed bags of potential but fell short on output to someone who has taken on significantly more responsibility.

The 21-year-old has produced a remarkable tally of 15 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances in all competitions thus far this season. Suffice to say, every big club in Europe has taken note of his exploits, with the Real Madrid attacking sensation becoming a key target for most of them, including Manchester City.

The Premier League champions could be forced to dip their toes in the transfer market for a wide-attacker following Ferran Torres’ move to Barcelona. The Spanish international’s departure might soon be followed by Raheem Sterling’s exit, with the Englishman facing an uncertain future at Manchester City.

If Sterling were to depart, Manchester City would have no option but to enter the market for a wide-man, considering Jack Grealish is yet to hit the ground running. That leaves Riyad Mahrez as the only natural winger in Pep Guardiola’s squad, although he can deploy Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus out wide.

But with Kayky too young to be a regular yet, Manchester City’s desire to sign a player like Vinicius Jr. is understandable. The Real Madrid attacking sensation can win matches on his own, which does not just make him an ideal replacement for Torres but an upgrade altogether.

That said, the 21-year-old is happy and content at Real Madrid and will likely reject all advances, not just from Manchester City but also other reported suitors like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. As for Manchester City, the English giants must set their sights elsewhere, with Vinicius unlikely to leave Real Madrid anytime soon.
