Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly tracking the progress of 20-year-old AS Roma midfield sensation Ebrima Darboe.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Ebrima Darboe is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League heavyweights are closely monitoring the development of the 20-year-old AS Roma midfielder.

Ebrima Darboe has captured the attention of scouts across Europe since joining AS Roma from Young Rieti in 2017. After arriving in Italy as a refugee half a decade ago, the youngster has found his footing in Rome and made his first-team debut for the Serie A towards the back end of the 2020/21 season.

The 20-year-old has since made gradual progress in Roma’s senior side, raking in only 229 minutes of game-time across five appearances this season. But Darboe has made his mark to a great extent, as suggested by interest from several clubs across Europe, including Tottenham Hotspur.

The north Londoners are in a transitional period right now, with the January transfer window being their first since Antonio Conte took over the helm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. And midfield reinforcement is one of the priorities for Spurs.

While Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp have been largely impressive this season, there is very little quality beyond the duo apart from Harry Winks. But the English midfielder is a backup option at best for Conte, with the Tottenham manager deeming Tanguy Ndombele surplus to requirements.

Ndombele has coincidentally been linked with AS Roma, with Jose Mourinho keen on reuniting with the French midfielder this month. Ndombele’s departure will leave Tottenham scouring for a replacement, with Mattias Svanberg one of the players on their radar.

Unlike his fellow Serie A-based midfielder, Darboe will be an addition for the long run for Tottenham, with Svanberg a player who can potentially hit the ground running. For now, though, Spurs are closely monitoring the 20-year-old’s progress.

The report also mentions Stefano Sensi as a target for Tottenham, with the Italian international potentially being a replacement for Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentine international has recently been linked with Atletico Madrid, leaving Tottenham in search of another midfield addition in the ongoing transfer window.
