Antonio Rudiger, a target for Barcelona and Real Madrid, has reportedly been offered a deal worth €7 million per year by Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are stepping up their efforts to sign Antonio Rudiger on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. A target for Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Chelsea defender, has been offered a €7 million-a-year contract.

Antonio Rudiger is one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this year following a stunning 2021. The German international was once deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, with Frank Lampard using him sparingly in the first half of the 2020/21 season. But the arrival of Thomas Tuchel has completely turned his career around for the better.

The 28-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the past year and has become a pivotal figure for Chelsea, for whom he has made 176 appearances to date. However, with his Chelsea contract winding down in the summer, the Blues are in a spot of bother over the player’s long-term future. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG.

Real Madrid’s interest in Rudiger could be stemming from a lack of reliable centre-backs at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal beyond first-choice pair Eder Militao and David Alaba. While Nacho is a backup option at best, Jesus Vallejo is not trusted by the Real Madrid boss. Rudiger is thus a viable target for Los Blancos, although they have reportedly cooled their interest due to his excessive wage demands.

On the other hand, Barcelona’s need for a centre-back is even more urgent than Real Madrid, as Gerard Pique is in the final phase of his career, while Samuel Umtiti is deemed surplus to requirements. And with Eric Garcia flattering to deceive since arriving at Camp Nou last summer, Barcelona must sign a centre-back this year, with Rudiger emerging as a possible option.

As for PSG, Sergio Ramos’s move from Real Madrid on a free transfer has not worked out as envisioned, while Presnel Kimpembe and Abdou Diallo face uncertain futures at Parc des Princes. PSG will thus have to invest in a long-term partner for Marquinhos, with Rudiger an option worth considering. To that end, the French giants have offered the 28-year-old a €7 million-a-year deal.

While the terms fall short of Rudiger’s €12 million per year demands, he might consider it. But the Chelsea defender’s preference is to join Real Madrid, which leaves him in a lurch in a way, considering the latest development. PSG should ideally be the front-runners in the race to sign Rudiger, although it is unclear how Barcelona will respond following the €7 million-a-year offer by PSG.
