Chelsea have reportedly bagged the services of Watford’s youth sensation Travis Akomeah, who has already trained with his new teammates.

According to The Secret Scout, Chelsea have completed the capture of Travis Akomeah from Watford. The reigning European champions have managed to beat the likes of Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Norwich City in the race to sign the talented 16-year-old, who has already trained with his new teammates.

A defender by trade, Akomeah is among the most talented players to come out of the Watford academy in recent years. At the age of just 16, he had been plying his trade for the club’s Under-18 team and even representing England at age-group level.

But it appears the teenage sensation is now set for the next step in his career as he joins the Chelsea academy. While the Blues have an infamous reputation for their notorious loan policy, Cobham has become an attractive destination for young talents in recent years, especially with the recent breakthrough of talents like Mason Mount, Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The addition of Akomeah should help Chelsea further strengthen their youth ranks. The west Londoners had been linked with a move for another defensive talent in the form of James Hill. But the ex-Fleetwood Town youngster has recently joined AFC Bournemouth on a permanent deal.

The onus is now Akomeah to showcase his talents at Cobham and eventually make his way up the youth ranks. Although he is yet to receive a taste of professional football, the 16-year-old has time on his hand and room to vastly improve himself as a Premier League defender.

Along with Chelsea, Liverpool were the other top clubs interested in the services of the Watford starlet. It appears the Reds are preparing for life without fourth choice centre-back Nathaniel Phillips, who has been incidentally linked with a move to Watford.

On an interesting note, Akomeah’s move to Chelsea comes just a few days before Chelsea’s Under-18 side is scheduled to play the Watford Under-18 team. It remains to be seen if the centre-back is called into action in this exciting clash FA Youth Cup fixture on Friday.
