Paris Saint-Germain have expressed interest in Chelsea forward Romelu Lukuku, with the French giants prepared to fork out €90 million.

A recent report from El Nacional has offered an update on the future of Romelu Lukaku. The Chelsea forward has dominated the headlines in recent weeks after his comments on Inter Milan and how he regrets leaving the San Siro in favour of a return to Stamford Bridge. Lukaku’s interview with Sky Italia has left the majority of Chelsea fans upset despite the forward’s subsequent apology.

Lukaku’s struggles on and off the pitch have compelled Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to ponder a potential sale. The Russian oligarch is even willing to sanction the player’s exit if he can recoup the eye-catching €115 million investment he made in the summer. It has put several top clubs on red alert, including Paris Saint-Germain.

Having scored 64 goals in 95 competitive appearances for Inter Milan, many believed Lukaku was the missing piece of the jigsaw Chelsea needed to truly compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season. However, if his comments about Inter weren’t enough, the Belgian has found it difficult to settle back into English football.

Although injuries have been an issue, the 28-year-old has netted just five goals in the league so far. It isn’t a bad return given that he has played in only 13 matches, but the Belgian’s overall contributions have been quite underwhelming.

It has prompted Chelsea to entertain the idea of Lukaku’s sale in the summer. It appears they are even prepared to replace the former Manchester United superstar by targeting Erling Haaland next summer.

Meanwhile, PSG are among several clubs monitoring the situation of Lukaku. The club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi rates the player highly and is likely considering him as an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is tipped to join Real Madrid in the summer when his contract runs out.

Although Les Parisiens have also been linked with a move for Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo, Lukaku could prove to be a more logical investment due to his age. The 28-year-old’s primary desire would be to return to Inter Milan, but the move remains financially impossible, and with PSG prepared to fork out €90 million for the striker, it won’t be surprising to see Lukaku join forces with Lionel Messi next season.
