Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo is reportedly on the verge of joining Birmingham City on a short-term loan deal.

According to Football Insider, Birmingham City are closing in on the capture of Amad Diallo. The Championship outfit has reached an agreement with Manchester United over a loan move until the end of the season, with both parties increasingly confident a deal can be struck within the coming days.

A product of the Atalanta youth academy, Diallo formally joined Manchester United at the start of last year. The 19-year-old sensation was brought in as a young prospect who was set to compete with the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford in the senior team.

A year after his move to Old Trafford, the winger has racked up only nine competitive appearances for the club. The youngster has been a victim of Manchester United’s lavish transfer policy that saw them bring in the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

As a result, Diallo has fallen down the pecking order, with his only competitive appearance this season coming in the final Champions League group stage game against BSC Young Boys. The 19-year-old Ivorian’s struggles, though, have not deterred his admirers, with Barcelona, for one, among the clubs reportedly interested in his services.

However, it appears Birmingham City is the likely destination for the talented winger, as he looks to bag some professional experience during the second half of the campaign. St. Andrews Stadium has already proven to be an attractive destination for Manchester United youngsters, largely thanks to Tahith Chong’s success since his loan move in the summer.

Last week, the Blues captured another Manchester United talent in Teden Mengi, also on a loan deal. Diallo, though, could be the most eye-catching acquisition given his raw talent and the potential to become one of the finest in Europe.

The Ivorian could be the latest addition to the pool of exciting young talents Birmingham City have in their locker, including Chong, Mengi and Jobe Bellingham, the brother of Manchester United target Jude. The 16-year-old recently made his professional debut by appearing in an FA Cup encounter against Plymouth Argyle.

It will be interesting to see how these young talents, including Diallo, help the Midlands outfit stave off the prospect of relegation during the second half of the campaign. Birmingham City are currently 18th in the league table and will be eager to retain their Championship status intact.
