Adama Traore is reportedly keen on rejoining Barcelona, handing the Blaugrana a major boost and Tottenham a big blow in his pursuit.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Adama Traore would be open to returning to Barcelona if they came calling. The Catalan giants consider the Wolverhampton Wanderers speedster, also a target for Tottenham, as a possible long-term replacement for Ousmane Dembele.

Adama Traore has been an enigmatic figure since leaving Barcelona. The Spanish international’s first foray into England came with a move to Aston Villa in August 2015, which was a failure. A switch to Middlesbrough a year later did not work out either. And it was after he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2018 that the 25-year-old got some semblance of stability in his career.

Traore has made 151 appearances for Wolves to date, amassing ten goals and 18 assists along the way. The Spaniard’s output does leave a lot to be desired, but his stock remains high, with several European bigwigs, including Barcelona and Tottenham, keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona stems from Ousmane Dembele’s uncertain future at Camp Nou. The Frenchman seemed to be set to sign a long-term contract with Barcelona, but that was before his wage demands got excessive for the Blaugrana, whose financial woes are well documented.

Dembele now appears set to leave Barcelona as a free agent in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly reaching a pre-contract agreement with him already. Traore has thus emerged as an option to replace Dembele, but the Catalan giants need to fend off competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the 25-year-old.

Spurs have reportedly already submitted an offer to sign Traore in the ongoing transfer window, with Antonio Conte keen on utilising him as a right wing-back. The incumbents have been largely unimpressive, although Emerson Royal has shown some promising signs at times. But with Matt Doherty deemed surplus to requirements at Tottenham, Traore could replace his former Wolves teammate.

However, Tottenham’s hopes of snapping up Traore could have been dashed, as the Spanish international is keen on rejoining Barcelona. With the La Liga heavyweights eyeing him as a potential long-term replacement for Dembele, we could see Traore returning to Camp Nou for a second stint.
