Newcastle United have reportedly submitted an improved offer for priority defensive target Sven Botman as they ramp up their pursuit of the Lille star.

According to The Athletic, Premier League side Newcastle United have submitted an improved offer to land Dutch centre-back Sven Botman.

The Magpies are currently looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window as they look to stave off relegation. Eddie Howe’s side possess the most porous defence in the Premier League this season, and, understandably, a centre-back is on the agenda.

Botman appears to be the priority, and Newcastle seem keen to flex their financial muscle to land him. LOSC Lille are eager to keep hold of their star player, and it remains to be seen just what it will take for them to part with him.

Last season, the Ligue 1 side won the French league title but saw several of their top players leave. Given their precarious financial situation, there is reason to believe that Botman could very well be sold for the right price.

At 21, Botman is young enough to be a long term option, yet experienced enough to be thrown in at the deep end. The Dutchman is open to a move to the Premier League, which could give Newcastle an advantage when it comes to negotiations.

The Netherlands Under-21 international is a better player than the centre-backs Newcastle already have in their ranks. Botman is not just good with the ball at his feet, but is also a force to be reckoned with in the air. His best years are still ahead of him, and he has the potential to develop into a truly dominant defender.

Newcastle could follow in Manchester City’s footsteps and emerge as a force to be reckoned with in European football in the coming years. But for now, they are fighting for their lives to retain their Premier League status. It will be interesting to see just what team they put together by the end of the January transfer window.

Having already signed Kieran Trippier, they are moving quickly to land Botman, with an improved offer being made. While the former is a veteran, the latter is still making his name in the game. Newcastle’s approach of mixing experience and youth hints at a long term project. Considerations appear to be made with an eye on the present and the future. It remains to be seen if they are successful in landing the Dutchman.

Am really disappointed at the team performance . Let us keep the faith . we need to sign more players . the whole defense line, some midfield and attackers like ( two) to give us convincing winning to stay up . In as much as we are attacking we have to mindful to defend as well. Cambridge really planning this formation . that they will play a counter attack . That is their game plan and they succeeded .
