Serie A club Fiorentina are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing Real Madrid outcast Isco in a cut-price deal this month.

According to a report by Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, Isco has emerged on the radar of Fiorentina over a possible cut-price deal in the ongoing transfer window. Real Madrid will not stand in the out-of-favour Spanish midfielder’s way if the Serie A club come calling.

Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga in July 2013 and has failed to live up to his potential over the years. The Spanish playmaker arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu as one of the most highly-rated players in Europe, but has struggled to deliver the goods consistently.

Things have gone from bad to worse in the last few years for the 29-year-old, who has become a bit-part player for Real Madrid. This has never been truer than in the ongoing campaign, as Isco has started just two of the 26 games played by the club thus far, totalling 195 minutes of game-time.

With his Real Madrid contract expiring in the summer, Isco’s days at the club are numbered. The Spaniard desperately needs a new challenge to resurrect his stuttering career and vie for a place in the national squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And Fiorentina could offer him an escape route out of Real Madrid as early as the January transfer window.

Real Madrid and Fiorentina share an excellent working relationship, with the Serie A club signing Alvaro Odriozola on loan for the 2021/22 season. Several other Real Madrid players, including Luka Jovic and Borja Mayoral, have also been linked with La Viola, with Isco the latest to emerge on their radar.

The 29-year-old could be a positive influence for Fiorentina if he can rediscover his best form. The Serie A club rate Isco highly despite his struggles at Real Madrid in the last few years. And with Real Madrid open to selling the player, a January move could be on the horizon.

However, Isco’s wages could pose a problem for Fiorentina, even though they are poised to recoup a handsome amount from Dusan Vlahovic’s sale. If a move to Serie A does not materialise, Isco could join a club in England or Spain, having recently been offered to Tottenham and Sevilla.
