Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly monitoring the situation of Paris Saint-Germain defender Colin Dagba.
According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal have expressed interest in Colin Dagba. The Paris Saint-Germain defender has no future at the club, with speculation linking him to a potential move away from Paris in January.
However, Dagba has rejected the advances of a couple of Ligue 1 outfits, including Saint-Etienne. It appears the right-back may well end up remaining at PSG during the second half of the campaign before opting for a fresh start in the summer. His situation is being closely monitored by a number of top clubs across Europe, including Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.
Part of the PSG youth setup since 2016, Dagba initially emerged into the first team in the 2018/19 campaign as a promising right-back with a big future ahead of him. However, the defender hasn’t enjoyed the kind of growth that was expected of him, having failed to muster over 1,400 minutes of league football in any of his three completed seasons in the top-flight.
Dagba’s role in the PSG first-team dwindled further this season after the arrival of Achraf Hakimi. The former Dortmund starlet has become the undisputed first-choice option at right-back, which has restricted Dagba’s overall game-time to just 97 minutes of league football.
The Frenchman’s struggles at PSG, though, have not deterred Arsenal, who are in the market for defensive reinforcements. It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is keen on finding a more reliable backup for Takehiro Tomiyasu at right-back, especially amid speculation linking Calum Chambers to a move away from the Emirates.
The experienced Cedric hasn’t been able to offer much quality either, thus accentuating the need for a new face in the right-back department. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Tariq Lamptey, but Dagba could be an ideal cost-effective alternative.
Although not as influential as someone like Hakimi when it comes to offensive contributions, the Frenchman could certainly prove to be a more attacking alternative for Tomiyasu, ultimately adding more variety in the Arsenal setup. Arteta, though, may have to remain patient in the pursuit of the 23-year-old PSG star, as the report suggests a move away from the French capital might not be possible until next summer.
