Liverpool striker Divock Origi has reportedly emerged as a January transfer target for Lazio, who have made contact with intermediaries over a move.

According to a report from Italian publication Il Tempo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Lazio have shown an interest in securing the signing of Liverpool centre-forward Divock Origi in the ongoing transfer window.

Origi signed for Liverpool back in 2014 from LOSC Lille and spent a year on loan with Les Dogues before arriving at Anfield. However, during his time with the Reds, the 26-year-old has never established himself as a regular starter in the lineup.

To date, the Belgian has made 167 appearances for the Merseyside giants, scoring 40 goals, some of which have been extremely crucial in the club’s success in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. He has played ten times this term, scoring five goals, but continues to be behind Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota in the pecking order.

Manager Jurgen Klopp recently admitted that Origi could be allowed to leave Liverpool shortly. And there has been no shortage of suitors for the 26-year-old either, with the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Besiktas sizing up January moves for the striker. Now, Lazio have emerged as the latest suitor for the Liverpool centre-forward.

The Biancocelesti are in the market for attacking reinforcements as manager Maurizio Sarri looks to refresh his options and make a push for a top-six finish. With Vedat Muriqi out of favour, it has left Ciro Immobile and Pedro to do the heavy lifting in attack, something that the manager wishes to address before the end of the month.

To that end, Origi has been identified as a transfer target, with the report claiming that Sarri sees the Belgian as an ideal fit for the way he wants his team to play. The Italian capital club have now established contact with intermediaries to explore the possibility of a transfer in January. However, they must find a taker for Muriqi first before bringing in a new striker.

So, it remains to be seen if Lazio are successful in their pursuit of Origi this month or whether the Belgian ends up staying put at Anfield for the rest of the season.
