Real Madrid have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe and have made an offer to sign him in January instead of waiting till the summer.

Speaking in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t MARCA), Italian football agent Giovanni Branchini has claimed that Real Madrid have made an opening offer of €50 million to secure the signing of long-term transfer target Kylian Mbappe in the ongoing transfer window.

Mbappe has grown into one of the most feared forwards in the world since he joined Paris Saint-Germain from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017. Just 23 years of age, the Frenchman has plundered 150 goals in just 196 matches for Les Parisiens while notching up 76 assists. He has won three Ligue 1 titles with the club, along with several other domestic honours.

A regular in the France national team, Mbappe was a key part of the 2018 FIFA World Cup-winning squad and won the UEFA Nations League last year. Given his talent and quality, it was always expected that the young forward would move away from Ligue 1 and join a bigger league.

Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of the ex-AS Monaco starlet and had made unsuccessful attempts to sign him in the past. Even in the summer last year, Los Blancos tested PSG’s resolve with a massive bid of €180 million as the player entered the final year of his contract, but Les Parisiens held their ground and did not sell their superstar forward.

While they have been making monumental efforts to try and convince Mbappe to sign an extension and stay at Parc des Princes, it seems the 23-year-old has his heart firmly set on a transfer to Real Madrid. A move to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, when his deal runs out, was expected to be on the cards.

However, it seems like the  Merengues have decided not to wait till the end of the season to sign him up. Instead, they are now believed to have launched a €50 million offer to secure Mbappe’s signing in the ongoing winter window itself, according to Branchini.

“It depends on PSG now, as Real Madrid have gone back in for Mbappe by offering 50m euros a few days ago. I don’t know how this will play out. It seems to me that this move from Florentino Perez is worth watching closely. It would be a shame for a player like Mbappe to move for free in the summer. I don’t know what they think about this in Paris,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mbappe had recently insisted that he was not looking to leave PSG midway through the season. However, Real Madrid’s offer might change things for the Frenchman, while PSG could also look to cash in on their superstar instead of losing him for nothing at the end of the season. With the two clubs set to square off in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages, it will certainly be interesting to see if this deal materialises this month.
